Do

Below you will find an example blog post. Please use the first three columns of this rubric to grade this post. Submit your grade using the Google Form below. The form also asks you to justify the grade given and to identify two (2) ways the author could have improved their work.

Reflection: One theme of “The Latehomecomer” is: patience is the slow road to success. An example in the story was when Kao Kalia Yang was writing her essay on love using her family's typewriter, she had to have patience so that she would not make any mistakes on her essay. This shows her determination because even though she was tired she continued writing until she had five whole pages filled. When she turned the essay in to her teacher; her teacher said that she wrote more than an answer to the question. Mrs. Galantin said the essay was beautiful and mentioned Kao was telling her the ways in which questions come from life and end in life.

Text Connection: A connection we can make with this article is text to world. In Kao’s family she worked hard for success and became confident that she really did know love. If everyone worked hard for success than more people would have jobs, money, and a home. When jobless people work hard and keep persevering in search of a job than their hard work would eventually be rewarded with a job that they enjoy.

Vocabulary: A new word I learned was nominal on page 59. They had changed their work schedules entirely to the graveyard shift (the nominal increase in their wages was necessary to maintain the new house). The change they could see in her was nominal. Nominal means something that is small or insignificant.

Connect & Evaluate

Now that you know what makes up a quality blog post and learned how to post to our site, it is time to synthesize this information and write your own post. Use "The Latehomecomer", the short story we read in class, as the material for your post. Remember you need original content (do not plagiarize). Use this rubric (same as above) to make sure you include all necessary components. Click here to get to our global reading project site. Use the video above if you need a reminder of how to find the appropriate section of the site and how to post.
